Dior Hermitage Shopper: Snob or Slob?

I wasn’t sure what this was supposed to be but a ruched tube top gone bad at Dior seems to be the inspiration of this mess they call the Hermitage bag. It has been a long and dry spell at Dior since the uber popular saddle bag. Even SJP shunned its bags in the SATC movie– though the Dior extreme shoes she wore throughout were absolutely brilliant (which I also have in black but I saw them on eLuxury way before the movie came out!). This bag may have the deceiving silhouette of a lady like top handle bag but is in fact 16.5″ x 11.75″– which is huge yet they call this the medium size! Galliano is one of my faves when it comes to ready to wear and haute couture but Dior bags of late? Not a chance. Dior Hermitage bag $2385 at eLuxury. But maybe I am too harsh on this thing, what do you think of this super ruched Hermitage shopper? Snob or Slob?

Sex and the City Bags

I found myself with several hours of free time on my hands yesterday morning, and decided to go watch Sex and the City– alone. I have never gone to the movies alone at 10am on a Sunday before but after two hours and 15 minutes of pure mindless entertainment, I was glad I went and can’t wait to do this more often– it was so therapeutic to sit in a theater alone! I was also relieved the movie turned out so enjoyable, after all the hype I almost didn’t go see it. I loved the series and was afraid I would hate the movie but it was as if the show never ended, the girls slipped back into their roles without missing a beat! I don’t want to give too much away for those of you who have not seen it but the movie was a sweetly spun tale about love, friendship, and forgiveness (albeit one filled with mucho product placements). But please do not expect any earth shattering performances, the cast, after all, is merely prop for all the fabulous gowns, shoes and bags! Now, on to the bags, there were so much eye candy for me in each scene, many that we’ve featured here in the past:

Carrie by far had the best bags (with the exception of the Eiffel tower clutch in the opening scene from Timmy Woods). From Hermes, LV, Chanel to glittering clutches I couldn’t identify (yet!), she did not disappoint!

Charlotte unsurprisingly played it safe with totes, from Chanel to the Biern Jenna you guys went nuts over, with a pop of color from a ruched satin Prada clutch and a Valentino satchel in red with roses across the top. She did have one crazy bag, the Fendi furry mess.

Samantha was her usual colorful self. Big bold Chanel bags, the Jimmy Choo Face bag, and several brightly colored totes including a Nancy Gonzalez lovely.

Miranda had a nice selection of diverse bags. I loved the Nancy Gonzalez croc and python bag she carried, the Alexandra McQueen’s metallic elvie was yummy, the Escada Margaretha bag and a strange looking fish bag made of wicker.

meshchanel.jpgsatcchanel.jpg
Carrie had several Chanel bags on her arm throughout the movie. The classic flap bag (which she wore long with one single chain a la 1985) and the tote with patches. This is the one she carried to Fashion Week with the girls. Not my favorite but it was flashy and appropriate for the occasion.

eiffel_tower_web.jpgeiffeltowerbag.gif.jpg
In the opening scene, Carrie is carrying a crystal Eiffel tower clutch by Beverly Hills bag designer Timmy Woods. She is supposedly showing her love of Paris but whatever– the bag is costumey and kitschy, definitely not my cup of tea– and the price is beyond ridiculous! She was wearing fabulous Dior gladiator platform shoes, though. Eiffel tower bag $3,000 at Patricia Fields.com
mirandangbag.jpgNancy Gonzalez python and croc bag- $3550. This is one of my absolute favorite bags from the movie. At the risk of sounding like a fashion victim, I really want it! Miranda (not my favorite character) had it swinging from her arm in one of the group scenes and it is a scene stealer!

elviemetallic.jpg

Alexander McQueen’s Elvie bag in metallic was toted by Miranda in one of the earlier scenes. I love the elvie and it was great to see a bag that is not on everyone’s radar in the movie. Alexander McQueen - Elvie Croco (Platinum) - $2004

25cmliz.jpgVERTanislizardcolor.jpgBig builds Carrie a ginormous closet in lieu of a diamond ring, and she walks in with a Vert Anis lizard birkin in 25cm (Hermes lizard bags are never bigger than 25cm due to the small size of the skin). I have a chocolate lizard birkin and a cherry lizard kelly in 25cm but now I’m salivating over the Vert Anis version. I was offered this bag not too long ago and I passed, imagine how much I could have sold it for now that it’s in the movie! It is such a great color, I use my Lindy in Vert Anis Veau Swift with everything.

Samantha’s Nancy Gonzalez bag was featured by Kelly last month. We adore the top zip satchel and ordered ours in all croco, mine is the smaller size. At Bergdorf Goodman. You can also order the matching croc and studded dog collar and leash! Gold studs were a major theme in the movie, bringing on more 80’s flashback!

mirandaescada.jpgThe Escada Margaretha bag is not the norm for Miranda, she’s usually in structured business looking bags so this was a nice change for her. Our intern, Anne, was enamored with this bag months ago before she knew it was on SATC, our young and hip intern is so ahead of trends!

chanelsatctweed.jpgCo-star Jennifer Hudson was a fresh addition to the cast as Carrie’s assistant, Louise. She sported the Denim patchwork (rented from BBAS), a fringe-y Chanel, and the Motard Firebird which Carrie splurged on after Louise helped put her life back together.Thank you to all the PR reps who supplied us with the fabulous photos.

Dior Babe Bag

Christian Dior was known for lady like couture in its heyday, he cinched in waists and put women in voluminous skirts and dainty hand held bags. It’s been a long road since then and though I adore Galliano’s interpretation of Dior gowns and RTW, I am not always a fan of the bags. I was on the fence about the latest ‘hot’ Dior bag, the Babe, until I saw it in person last week (it’s been in every celeb rag mag, which tells me Dior did a lot of gifting this season, especially in yellow). My friend Melinda, a very stylish and gorgeous woman, carried a purple one with a simple Rachel Roy black pencil skirt and white pintucked blouse. She was the vision of understated elegance, but the purple Babe bag gave her a shot of youthful style and color. The bag is soft and slouchy; it hangs well when full, and is not as rounded as it appears in the photo above. The polished bracelet handles had looked uncomfortable to me, but were surprisingly easy to slip my arm through or to carry by hand. And, of course the little detachable makeup bag/clutch is an extra bonus that is always appreciated. Overall, I really liked this bag (which is more than I can say for the rest of the Dior bags this season). It is the modern interpretation of Dior’s hand bag; ultra lightweight and a fun, fresh style. A great tote to grab and go! Dior Babe bag $2,290 at eLuxury

Poppie Couture has an array of eye popping candy colored clutches for Spring that are way too yummy to pass up. Priced at $450 a piece, they won’t put much of a dent in your budget so you can splurge on the darling little white dresses from Fendi, Dior or Derek Lam. This has been a very long and dreary Winter and I am so ready for bright fun colors again! My bag wardrobe has everything from a cheery yellow Smythson ostrich bag to a bright blue Hermes birkin (and an orange ostrich birkin on the way, I was in desperate need of sunshine so I treated myself!) but I am missing a hot pink clutch for the many beach parties I plan on attending this summer(with a wide brimmed hat and lots of sunscreen of course). fendiwhitedress128.jpgThe foldover clutches are easy to pack and easy to use, it’s the grab and go anywhere/do anything fun bag! Poppie Couture has long been a favorite of Hollywood actresses including Naomi Watts, Jennifer Aniston (who scooped up 10 to give as Christmas gifts!) and Faith Hill and now she’s taking over the Big Apple with a sold out collection at Bergdorf Goodman! Go to her website for more colors and leathers or check Bergdorf’s for the latest shipments.

Dior “Babe” Vanity

A little bit Jackie O. but in the way that this might be a better fit for someone born on the same year as her? I do agree that this is a classically designed bag, very lady like, white glove wearing and perhaps a pill box hat - ya know, like Jackie. But I have a hard time with the fact that is so, how do I put it delicately…… extremely old lady-ish. My SA at Neiman’s was trying to tell me that it is ultimately chic for a young girl to carry such a “classic” (ie “mature”) bag. Yeah, sure a 22 year old has nothing to worry about and it would be terribly chic for a young chick to get swanky with this Dior, but when you’re on the cusp of “mature”, I would not take the risk. There is one thing about this bag that made me stop to fancy, for a full 10 minutes. The top part opens up to reveal a mirror that is the entire width of the bag (thus, Vanity Bag). The flap that opens up has elastic bands for lipstick, pens or cigarette holders? This was of extreme interest to me. I love the idea of a substantial size mirror on the bag, like it suddenly becomes a cosmetic trunk! It also comes with a handy coin pouch. This is going to be a big bag for Dior. It comes in this golden metallic, black and a fuschia fit for Valentine’s Day (but that’s about it) - sold at eLuxury for $3360. There is a natural python with gold trim and a brown crocodile, I will update with prices when they release it.

UPDATE: The python is $6,500. The crocodile is $26,000 and comes in black, pink, white, orange, baby blue. Hardly worth it for the croc if you ask me. What are you going to do with a $26,000 pink croc bag?

Dior Gypsy Bag

NMV04N6_mp.jpg

I have always had romantic (and somewhat delusional) notions of Gypsies, I imagined the life of a Gypsy to be glamorous and adventurous and the idea of waking up in a new city each week especially appealed to me (which I practiced throughout my 20’s) until I had a child. Though I no longer crave the roaming lifestyle of a Gypsy, I still love what I consider “Gypsy” style accessories; a big stack of clanging gold bangles, long flowing skirts with layers of delicate chains around the waist, ruffled tops tipped just so on the shoulders to show a bit of glowing skin, and of course big gold hoop earrings. However, I have never, in all the years of being fascinated with Gypsies, imagined a Gypsy bag to look like this. Hoochie… yes, but Gypsy… no. Tacky ’80s… yes, but Gypsy… no. I think you are getting my point. Some of you will balk at me and say it is creative, as in take Britney Spears’ red lace tap pants and turn it in to a bag? Uh… No thanks. 13″ x 8.5″, $1950 - Dior Handbags at eLuxury.

Saks Fall Sale Rocks!!

Filed under: Dior Bags — Fel @ 5:58 pm | Share This

dior_pythonpumps.pngAre you having as much fun as we are with all these sales? With sluggish sales figures reported so far for this year, retailers are starting sales early and it looks like it’s all the good stuff, too! These are the bags we have been salivating over but couldn’t justify so now that it’s on sale, no need to justify! The Zac Posen Antonia Patent Shoulder Bag in my favorite color, purple, has to be the best buy of the sale season. It is now $840 down from $1200. And trust me, the purple trend will continue. We are seeing big colors for Spring so you’re totally safe with this here.

The Ferragamo Laser Cut Patent Tote isn’t something that I would consider full priced but $875 from $1250 sure changes the tune. They have done an amazing job making the bags younger and I’m telling you, I see cute young girls with Ferragamo all the time now!! It is an iconic brand so there is not much risk in being seen with one. This giant tote, 22″ X 13″, is great for those who need to haul the world around with you (I am guilty of this now that I have 2 kids). I love this green, it is totally luscious and in the distressed patent it is neutral yet bold. I also love the thick braided handles. For all that, I can even deal with the laser cut logo. I was in love with this Jimmy Choo Kaaren Clutch from the start. Perfect timing now that it’s on sale with the holiday parties you’ll be attending. But you’ll be using this beyond the cocktails and finger food, this is a keeper! Was $995, now only $696.50.

Ohhh, Tina is not going to like seeing these Dior Python pumps go on sale because I know she bought this at full price. She is all about instant gratification so I guess she pays for being able to have it. These are the ultimate in lux shoes, like a museum piece!! On sale for $840, was $1200.

Weekend Bag Envy

UPDATE: I just received word from my top secret and very fabulous fashion source that this is a Dior bag! To be honest I was a bit shocked, I had pegged this as an obscure designer discovered by Patricia Fields… who knew?!?!?! Thanks for guessing all!

So exciting that SATC is filming its movie and our favorite bag snob, SJP, is out and about with fab bags! Any guesses on the sunny yellow tote she’s sporting?

Dior Chain Mail Clutch

dior_chainmailclutch.jpgdior_chainmailclutch_closeup.png

Going on a date with your knight in shining armor? Well, go in matching style with this chain mail clutch! Seriously, why else would you need a chain mail clutch? Michael Kors did a chain mail bag for when you go diving in shark infested waters but this clutch (at 8.75″x 4.25″) is hardly big enough for scuba gear . The Kors bag weighs 8 pounds, this clutch is probably lighter but honestly, after a night out you are still going to get carpal tunnel from clutching. Besides, the novelty of chain mail is not enough to make a fashion statement - this bag is just pointless when it comes to style so it’s not like you are suffering for the sake of fashion. A good use of chain mail would have been an updated 80’s inspired frame clutch with a cute clasp, that would have been subtle and chic. And at $1430, who would bother? Available at eLuxury Dior Boutique.

Dior Ethnic Zipped Tote

Yes, this is in fact a Dior bag and not a Isabella Fiore. This would actually be a decent bag for Isabella Fiore and although that may be a compliment to Isabella Fiore because her bags are usually such an affront to my senses, it is certainly a burn for Dior. The whip stitching is never a good idea for anything other than saddle bags and to make matters worse, the bag is not even leather, it’s Dior jacquard canvas. Totally disgusting!! They are trying to make this whole thing cute with that heart tag but if they are going for cute then MAKE A CUTE BAG!!! This bag is even worse in person if you can imagine. The heavy whip stitching causes the canvas to pucker, you can even see it in this professional studio picture shot to give the best possible view of the product. The entire thing is a big ‘ole mess. And I will reiterate, the canvas combination with the cowboy inspired design is beyond gross!! A total waste of money at $1150, available at Saks.
