I feel bad writing bad things about Gucci. Sure, their Cruise collection…ain’t cute. To put it mildly. But I already wrote about the bag I liked least, so now I want to give them a fair shake and write about the bag I like best. I’m guessing it wasn’t the bag I was supposed to notice, but I quite enjoy the Gucci Sukey Large Tote. Sure, it’s not revolutionary. It’s just a canvas tote with some cream leather trimming the famous Gucci monogram fabric. Maybe a bit played out? Sure. Logo bags aren’t nearly what they used to be. But still, compared to the other Cruise offerings, this tote is entirely unoffensive and beautiful in its lack of adornment (particularly its lack of odd tattoo-like adornment). For a Gucci bag, it’s price is relatively low, and I’ve always loved the cream leather combined with their signature fabric, although I’m not sure why it stick out to me. The shape is nice, it’s entirely functional, and it’s not at all ugly. Buy through Saks for $850.
Gucci “Hearts” New York but sadly, it is an unrequited love. We first covered the happy story of this partnership last week. But since then, New York City’s Empire State Development Corporation (ESDC), who owns the trademark to I “heart symbol” New York, became a little ticked that PPR (who owns Gucci) did not get permission to use this logo. Uh, did they also hear that all the proceeds from this bag is going back to New York to the Playground Partners Central Park Improvement Program? What is the issue here really? It sounds to me like ego because not only is there no harm, this only benefits the city with cash and PR. And what sane person would fight to turn away cash and PR? This makes no sense. So, to be charitable, we first have to consult with our legal team? I mean, sure Gucci gets something out of this, they want to promote their new giant flagship store on 5th Ave but hello, doesn’t that also benefit the city of New York? It is Fall and it’s that time of year where every bag comes in some sort of fur. I am not into the Indy but this one with grey mink and ostrich detail somehow makes it better. If you are a rap star (or Jennifer Lopez), this is the way to style it for the winter. The shaded grey mink is so divine! I like that instead of metal plates on the corners, this version has ostrich patches, it just makes a little more sense design wise. I know this is totally un-PC and we get a lot of flack for featuring these type of bags but remember, we only talk about the bags, we don’t make them. And do we encourage people to buy them? No, not this bag, at $7990 you can get yourself a nice Birkin!! Of course it will be leather and not an exotic. We still recommend though that if you want exotic, go with a skin and stay away from fur. You’ll get a lot of heads turning if that’s what you want but fur is just not that practical as a bag.
