I totally dig this new stripe dress from Asos. Available in 2 colors; white and blue, it is made from soft cotton with sweet empire dress line. I think it’s simple, girly and fun at the same time. Tagged at £28, it’s worth it, don’t you think?

2007 CFDA Awards - It’s a Tie!

cfda_heidiklum.jpgcfda_umathurman.jpg

cfda_awards.jpgTwo of our favorite ladies looking absolutely amazingly gorgeous at the CFDA Awards last night. Heidi Klum is ever faithful in Michael Kors and Uma Thurman pulls off a challenging Zac Posen with her legs that go on forever. The top honor of Womenswear Designer of the Year went to Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCullough of Proenza Schouler AND Oscar de la Renta for an unprecedented tie. Apparently presenter Ellen Barkin didn’t realize it was a tie and there was an awkward moment after she only announced Oscar’s name. Derek Lam, as you know we love him so, won Accessory Designer of the Year. (I have a special story on him tomorrow so stay tuned). The full list of winners is after the jump.

Stella McCartney Fall 2006

stellahighwaistedjeans.jpgstelldeminjacket.jpgstellasweatertunic.jpgstellajumpsuit.jpg

I do like the collection as a whole, Stella’s talent proves that genes win in the nature vs nurture debate, but I just need to point out the fact that she find these unforgivable 80’s trends to be chic again is baffling since she grew up when I did and I’m still embarrassed by it. I know “higher” waisted pants are back, (thank god cuz I’m telling you, the low hip jeans have ruined my body. Does anyone else have this problem where all your fat migrated to just above the waistline so now I have no waist?) but this is really kind of silly, I mean it’s hiked up so far it actually works as a corset and I think there is camel toe. And the “Santino” jumpsuit, it’s not even flattering on this 5′10″ 100 pound model. Other than that, Stella stands up to all the praise with another huge collection.

2007 Golden Globes Awards

Filed under: Fashion shows — Fel @ 6:36 pm | Share This

There were a lot of surprises on the Golden Globes and not least of which is Sasha Baron Cohen winning for Borat (I personally think he’s brilliant and had the funniest acceptance speech, if you can call it that). I don’t think anybody expected Eddie Murphy to ever beat out Jack Nicholson for any award involving acting skills and of course the underdog of underdogs, Jennifer Hudson proves that American Idol cannot be trusted for picking out real stars. I hated the Devil Wears Prada but how can you not love Meryl Streep? Don’t we all wish we could be like her? Dignified, humble and get everything you want without having to be a bitch about it. OK, enough gibber gabber, let’s get to what we all want – the fashion. I loved that there was a lot of color and tons and tons of WHITE!! Many were highly questionable but where’s the fun for us if celebrities don’t take risks?

Sienna Miller
siennamiller.jpg

Like Sienna Miller, I really expected a lot more from her, I’m not sure why I would but this Cesar’s Palace get up was so far from her usual edgy style. That braided headband is like the kind you find at a mall kiosk. The whole look was very I-went-to-the-local- Macy’s.

Salma Hayek
salmahayek.jpg
You really can’t fault Salma Hayek for wanting to show off her hot bod but from certain angles this gown is clearly not flattering. The white is great for showing off the design of the dress but as we all know, it is a huge risk when it is body hugging.

Cameron Diaz
camerondiaz.jpg

I know people are going to make fun Cameron Diaz’s Bjork inspired gown, but if you look at the whole thing and not just the one shoulder wing, it is really a great gown. The ribbon belted waist line is super adorable. Her make up was another story, it’s way too harsh and with the dark hair, it’s just not a good combo for her.

Ellen Pompeo
ellenpompeoglobe.jpg

I really didn’t like Ellen Pompeo’s futuristic Greek goddess toga. And I don’t know why she thinks it’s a good idea to pull her hair back (remember last year’s slicked back grossness?). Maybe I just don’t like her whiny character on Grey’s Anatomy and it is skewing my view.

Jennifer Garner
jennifergarner.jpg

Jennifer Garner had the worst white gown on but that aside, I think she looks great. Motherhood definitely suits her and the extra pounds has done wonders to soften her face. She looks really pretty and fresh and happy.

Rinko Kikuhi
rinkokikuhi.jpg

Rinko Kikuhi decided to show up as a Dr. Seuss character. I guess it could be interpreted as cute and interesting but I can’t get over how all those shower poofs look like poodle pom poms.

Angelina Jolie
293.pitt.jolie.011507.jpg

Other than looking like she was made to show up at gunpoint, Angelina Jolie looked incredibly good. Too bad her sour puss face ruined it for everyone. It just goes to show that no matter how beautiful, hot and sexy you are, personality does count. It pays to smile once in a while.

Beyonce
293.knowles.beyonce.011507.jpg

I think Beyonce sent in her wax mannequin robot in her place. Her skin was so perfect, it looked fake and waxy. And that dress fit her almost a little too well, it really really accentuated her famous derriere.

Renee Zellweger
293.zellweger.renee.011507.jpg

I loved Renee Zellweger’s jewel toned gown. The pleat that opens up is simple and understated but really flattering and adds interest. The emerald really shows off well on Renee’s fair skin - all it takes is a bold and beautiful color to create a red carpet look that stands out.

Vanessa Williams
vanessawilliams.jpg

I love Vanessa Williams and she did me proud by showing up looking absolutely stunning! I even loved her big hair – it worked by keeping her neck bare. The bronze lace in the varying cuts and ruching looks perfect on her, making her long and lean.

Penelope Cruz
293.cruz.penelope.011507.jpg

We have to give Penelope Cruz props for her Chanel Couture. It is absolutely fab even though it was simple black. The belt on the overall ruffled gown is so delightful and chic. I loved that is was a little bit flamenco and a little bit princess.

Jennifer Lopez
jenniferlopez.jpg

I hate to do this to my beloved but what the hell was Jennifer Lopez wearing? It’s either a tablecloth or a sheet. The asymmetrical and the cheesy gold border and the sash in the back, the whole thing was so incredibly hideous. How can she do this to me? Is she like, look at me, I can wear the ugliest mess, be married to a rat and still be a gorgeous diva?

Prada Spring ‘07

prada.jpgprada1.jpg
Miuccia is by far one of the most amazing designers of our time. She is unapologetic when it comes to fashion and her off beat sense of creativity which may be hard for some to accept but I love it! I think it’s fabulous that she chose bright juicy colors for spring instead of the ubiquitous beige and white everyone else showed. I also loved all the billowing silk tops, so what if she showed them bottomless, she said she didn’t like any of the pants and skirts she’d designed with them!(and what, the thick schlacked colorless faces on the models were okay? A quick swipe of lipstick would have been nice). Come spring, I’ll be wearing the tops with a pair of loose trousers belted tightly a la Coco with a pile of jeweled bangles. But there were a few sketchy items as my bag snob partner pointed out, the fringe dresses were not in the best of taste to say the least but I’m sure there will be more than a few Cattle Baron princesses wearing them to next year’s ball. A few years ago I probably would have hated the collection for it’s lack of traditional form as much as my bag snob partner does but I feel like I am seeing clothes differently these days. Perhaps it’s shopping overload but I am just so bored with everything out there right now! I love Elber Albaz for the same reason. I mean the classics are great, Oscar and Carolina can always be counted on to deliver pretty-pretty but sometimes I just want something a little more creative and Miuccia delivers it, EVERY time.

Prada Fall 2006

pradafursleeves.jpgpradabunchyshirt.jpgpradabunchybag2.jpgpradaplatformopentoe.jpg

It’s the end of high tech futuristic, straight line designs for Miuccia. We loved it 15 years ago but now the change is welcomed, although our review is mixed. The seriousness of the strong women image is a little 80’s and the fur sleeves with animal print coat is too ‘Clan of the Cave Bears guest starring on Dynasty’ for our taste. Bunchy poofy is the new thing (Marc Jacob’s spring line) but it’s not exactly flattering (whereas Marc’s silhouettes still have the body in mind). I know she is trying to get away from the prissy ladylike look, and tell me if you think I’m wrong here, but we like to look feminine and slim (and the reason we pay for Prada’s impeccable tailoring). On the other hand, the bunchy bags are great! We love the playful yet chic look about them. It’s a good thing she didn’t venture too far on the staple of super high platforms because we need them and love them, especially these open toe platform sandals (one of us, the petite Snob, needs them more than the other but the other loves to tower over people in crowds and the added height makes my shoulders seem narrower). So, as always with Miuccia, strong on accessories, hit and miss on the clothes.
